Scrap metal

Scrap is the stream most often left on the table. It leaves sites mixed when it could be separated, sold through a single local buyer when it could be marketed, and recorded as a disposal line when it should be a revenue line.

Where it can go

Evaluated in order,
best outlet first

Each route below is assessed and ruled out before the next is considered. Disposal is what remains after that, not where the conversation starts.

01

Direct mill or foundry sale

Clean, separated grades placed straight with a consuming mill or foundry, which removes a layer of margin between your dock and the furnace.

02

Processor sale

Mixed or contaminated loads routed to a processor who sorts, shears and upgrades before resale.

03

Component reuse and de-manufacture

Equipment, motors and assemblies with working value recovered as parts rather than shredded for metal content.

04

Last resort

Material with no metal value and no reuse path handled as waste, with the reason recorded.

What KODA handles

Coordinated end to end

The outlet is chosen on the material's merits, not on what is convenient. Every option is weighed against what the stream actually is, what it is worth and what documentation it has to produce — and the reasoning is shown to you, not summarized.

  • Grade identification and separation planning at the point of generation
  • Buyer identification and competitive placement of each grade
  • Container, hauling and scheduling coordination
  • Scale tickets, grade confirmation and settlement reconciliation
  • Recovery reporting alongside the rest of your material

Common in

Who generates this stream

Manufacturing, fabrication, automotive, aerospace, energy, demolition and plant decommissioning.

One stream is a complete engagementThis can be handled on its own, at one site, with no requirement to move anything else to KODA. It can also run as part of a full portfolio. The scope is yours to set and can change in either direction.

Questions

Scrap metal, in practice

Do we need to separate scrap before KODA takes it?

No. Separation usually improves what a stream returns, so it is worth evaluating, but it is a recommendation rather than a condition. Mixed loads are placed with processors equipped to sort them.

Can KODA handle a one-off clearance rather than an ongoing program?

Yes. A single decommissioning, line removal or yard clearance is a normal engagement and carries no requirement to move the rest of your material.

How is the value of a load verified?

Through scale tickets, grade confirmation from the receiving facility and settlement reconciliation. The documentation is given to you, not summarized for you.

Start with the material,
not the invoice

Every engagement begins with a KODA Operational Review™ — a structured evaluation of your facility, materials, vendors and compliance requirements. Recommendations come from that data.
