01 · Waste management

Hazardous and
non-hazardous waste

Both halves of this are managed the same way, which is not how it usually works. The regulated streams get attention because the paperwork demands it, and the non-regulated ones quietly cost more every year because nobody has looked at them since the contract was signed.

What the work covers

From the point it is
generated to the final site

01

Stream profiling

Every waste stream has to be described accurately before anyone will accept it — what is in it, how it behaves, whether it counts as hazardous. We establish that from how your process actually runs and, where needed, from lab results. The legal responsibility for that description stays with you, which is exactly why it should rest on evidence rather than on what somebody wrote down years ago.

02

Containers and accumulation

The right container in the right place, labeled and dated, in a storage area that fits how your people already move. Almost nothing an inspector writes up here is complicated — which is exactly what makes it galling to be written up for. We set the containers and the storage area up with you, at the point the material is made.

03

Manifesting and transport

We prepare the shipping documents, book the carrier, and make sure the load meets transport rules before it leaves your gate. Then we follow it to the receiving facility rather than assuming it got there.

04

Treatment, recovery or disposal

We pick the destination from what the material actually is and what can legitimately be done with it. Recovery and treatment get looked at before disposal on every stream — including the regulated ones, where people too often assume there is no choice. You see the reasoning, not just the invoice.

05

Non-regulated streams, same standard

General plant waste, process residues, off-spec product and trash get the same attention and the same records as the regulated side. The regulated side gets watched because the paperwork demands it. The other side just quietly costs more every year. We manage both to the same standard, which is usually where the first saving appears.

06

The record that is left behind

Signed shipping documents checked against what actually left your dock, certificates of destruction where destruction was required, and your waste descriptions kept current. The answer should take a minute to find, not an afternoon of phone calls. We produce all of it as the work happens and hand it to you, rather than keeping it on our side.

What you end up holding

A file that answers
the question

The point of the documentation is the moment somebody asks where a drum went two years after it left. That answer should take a minute to produce, not an afternoon of phone calls, and it should come from your own records rather than from ours.

  • Signed manifests, reconciled against what was shipped
  • Certificates of destruction where destruction was required
  • Current profiles, reviewed before they expire
  • Receiving facility documentation, kept per site
  • Exception reports when a load is rejected or short-shipped
  • One file per site, in a format you can hand to an auditor

Questions

Asked most often

Does our liability end when the truck leaves?

No. Generator liability runs to the final disposition of the material, which is the single most important thing to understand about this work. It is also the reason the choice of outlet matters more than the price of the haul, and why a load is followed to where it was going rather than closed out at the gate.

Can you take one stream rather than the whole site?

Yes. One profile, one recurring pickup or one problem drum is a complete engagement. There is no condition attached about the rest of your material, and there is no point at which you are asked to move the rest of it.

We are not certain whether a stream is hazardous.

That is a normal place to start and a short piece of work to resolve. Profiling settles it from process knowledge and, where needed, analysis. Carrying an assumption either way is the expensive option: a non-hazardous stream managed as hazardous costs money every month, and the reverse costs more than money.

Where this connects

Scope is yours to setThis can be taken on at one site, for one stream, or across a full portfolio. Starting small carries no condition about the rest, and scope can move in either direction afterwards.

Start with one stream

A single profile is enough to see how the work is done. Nothing about the rest of your site has to change for it.
